Originally called the Tivoli, Adelaide's Her Majesty's Theatre was built in 1913 and opened on 6th September that year. Regarded as the finest theatre in Australia when it opened, Her Majesty's is the last theatre remaining from the once-famous national Tivoli vaudeville circuit.

Her Maj, as she is affectionately known to the locals, has typically hosted a wide variety of theatrical and musical performances that entertain thousands of people every year.

For musicals and humorous stage shows, stand-up comedy, dramas and thrillers, orchestral performances, operas and more, Her Majesty's is a standout venue.

Over the years, some of the world's greatest theatrical names have graced the stage. The likes of Lauren Bacall, WC Fields, Whoopi Goldberg, Spike Milligan, Rowan Atkinson, Dame Judi Dench, Ronnie Corbett, Barry Humphries (aka Dame Edna Everage) and Angela Lansbury to name but a few from what is a VERY long list of performers who have shined bright here.

Located an easy stroll from Victoria Square in the centre of Adelaide, you'll find a great show there pretty much every day of the year.

A substantial redevelopment and expansion project for Her Majesty's Theatre has gloriously returned the theatre to its Art Deco roots and increased its capacity from the previous 970 to around 1,500 patrons, making it an attractive venue for a broad range of shows, particularly long running musicals.

Brought back to life by Cox Architecture, our beautiful new Her Maj has taken out the City of Adelaide Prize, the David Saunders Award for Heritage and the Jack McConnell Award for Public Architecture in the 2021 South Australian Architecture Awards.

Ian & Pamela Wall Gallery and Pickard Terrace

Located on the rooftop level of Her Majesty's Theatre, The Ian & Pamela Wall Gallery and Pickard Terrace complete the magnificent redevelopment of this iconic theatre.  With picturesque views overlooking the city of Adelaide this venue has the ability to truly enhance your next function and make it one to remember.  A new exhibition exploring Adelaide's rich history of theatres opened in November 2023 with more than 35 theatres celebrated through old photographs and programmes.
