Franklin Street Crossing
February 2026
Franklin Street Pedestrian Crossing becoming critical.
The Franklin Street Pedestrian Crossing project (at the intersection of Elizabeth/Byron Streets) has been allocated funding for detailed design in the current financial year Business Plan and Budget (FY2025/26). The Administration has prepared an updated concept design at this intersection based on feedback from the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT), with detailed design expected to commence in the coming months.
The construction of the pedestrian crossing at this location is anticipated to commence next financial year subject to allocation of funding as part of the 2026/27 Business Plan and Budget process.
Since discussion commended between GBP and Council there has been a susbstantial increase in traffic due to IGA supermarket and future development planned attracting more residents and pedestrians. It is becoming increasing critical that the infracture is installed.
