UnionBridge on Franklin
February 2026
The beautiful historic building on Franklin Street is now the home of handcrafted traditional beers, alcoholic sodas and distilled spirits.
The historic building Union Bridge on Franklin calls home was originally built as the Sir John Franklin Inn in the late 1800s. Our historic building is recognized for its architectural significance as a notable two-story, stone structure featuring a balcony with iron lace panels, and stands as one of Adelaide's oldest hotels.
Over the years, the Sir John Inn has taken on many names, most recently the Benjamin on Franklin, with the structure fit out maturing and modernizing whilst keeping the original structural uniqueness and charm intact. In 2024, Union Bridge Brewery & Distillery embraced this beautiful and significant building to create our city, Cellar Door.
Manager Cassie started her journey with Union Bridge in 2025 as the Functions Manager, at a similar time joined as the newest member of the Grote Precinct Committee. This year Cassie have taken on the role of the Venue Manager.
Before moving to Adelaide, Cassandra Wright lived in Darwin. "This is where I started my career in Hospitality. Since finishing school in 2016 I have travelled extensively and worked in operations teams that planned and executed major events including the V8 Supercars, Red Centre NATS, Splendor in the Grass, and Darwin's major music festival Bass in the Grass. This experience has developed my events planning and coordination skills and empowered my view towards the 'big picture', while travelling has given me many insights into food and drink culture. I joined the precinct to connect with people that share similar passion, and to position Union Bridge's contribution to Adelaide's rapidly growing west-end sits within the larger context of development."
Cassie is excited by the raw potential of the venue and looks forward to activating more of its spaces in 2026. In addition to their branded soda room bar and restaurant, the upper level features a stunning chandelier-lit function space with a large balcony and private bar.
"I recently piloted some unique functions that highlight the capacity of this space including a sell-out jazz music night, and a formal 3 course dinner with paired wines. I'm looking forward to showcasing our venue through more activity of this kind along with some new creative ideas. I see Union Bridge on Franklin and the precinct in general as very much as being a destination venue.
While we currently lack the foot traffic inherent to the other parts of the city, our unique character, unique offerings, and ease of access are our clear advantages. Engaging with outreach and grass-roots marketing to draw people to our precinct will be an important focus for 2026, with substantial opportunities to work on this collaboratively."
