Cool Road Adelaide
Cool Road Adelaide has been launched at The Joinery, Franklin Street.
Dark bitumen roads contribute to heating cities and urban areas – known as the urban heat island effect. To combat this, Adelaide City Council is considering ways to make our cities more comfortable for everyone.
The Cool Road Adelaide project was launched outside The Joinery by Minister for Environment and Water David Spiers, City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor, Minister Rachel Sanderson and the City of Adelaide Sustainability team.
The project will pilot the performance of three cool road surface products in Adelaide CBD this summer. The treated pilot road – Bowen Street outside the Joinery – will be monitored to see how the different products reduce surface and ambient air temperature, as well as the experiences of local residents, road users, pedestrians and businesses.
